The Counselor Preparation Comprehensive Examination (CPCE), according to Pearson Vue, “is designed to measure a student’s level of mastery of the requisite knowledge and skills identified by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and other Educational Professions (CACREP) for the preparation of professional counselors”.
The National Counselor Examination (NCE), according to Pearson Vue, “is a 200 multiple-choice exam designed to assess knowledge, skills and abilities determined to be important for providing effecting counseling services”. -
Your graduate program in Clinical Mental Health Counseling or School Counseling may require that you take the CPCE to graduate or advance to practicum and internship.
If you plan to become a National Certified Counselor, the NCE is the examination to take. Most states require the NCE to become licensed. -
